About Us

We specialize in education and research related to maternal and infant nutrition

Meet the Maternal and infant nutrition team. Confident diverse research team, reflecting teamwork and support.

The MILK Research and Educational Group at NC State University is a multidisciplinary group united by a shared commitment to improving maternal and infant health through evidence-based nutrition and lactation support.

Our work is grounded in the belief that families deserve warm, compassionate care rooted in evidence-based practice and shaped by the needs of their communities. We recognize that lactation support extends beyond clinical spaces – it’s about relationships, access, advocacy, and education. That’s why our team includes researchers, educators, public health professionals, and community advocates who bring a broad range of perspectives and experiences to the work we do.

We value collaboration and strive to create lasting partnerships across clinical, academic, and community settings. From educating future lactation professionals to research on human milk to inform clinical protocols, our team is focused on developing resources to improve breastfeeding outcomes for families and communities. As part of a land-grant institution, we are also committed to extension and outreach. Our current initiatives include developing and managing on-demand lactation education courses, exploring innovative models for community breastfeeding support, and expanding research on breastfeeding experiences and outcomes – particularly across a broad range of populations. We are also working to support professionals at all levels of training, from aspiring lactation consultants to seasoned healthcare providers seeking continuing education through our annual conference.

Whether we are presenting at conferences, supporting the launch of community-based breastfeeding groups, or conducting research in community and clinical settings that inform evidence-based practice, our work is driven by a commitment to facilitating the best possible care and creating meaningful, measurable change.
