About The MILK Research and Educational Group at NC State

The MILK Research and Educational Group at NC State University is a group of people dedicated to advancing maternal and infant nutrition and lactation support through education, outreach, and research. Our team brings together educators, researchers, and healthcare practitioners with a shared goal: to support breastfeeding and nutrition in both community and clinical settings and to enhance health outcomes for all families.

We work to educate healthcare providers, health workers, and the broader community on evidence-based practices in lactation and nutrition. Through tailored workshops, educational materials, and training opportunities, we aim to equip professionals with the tools they need to offer informed, compassionate support to the families they serve. We support the development of community-based breastfeeding support by assisting others in starting their own groups, providing education for aspiring lactation consultants, and offering expert presentations at conferences and workshops on topics such as community lactation support, training future lactation professionals, and current research in nutrition and lactation.

While we are not currently hosting our community-based breastfeeding support group, we recognize the critical importance of peer and professional support for families navigating infant feeding. We are actively developing new community outreach projects to meet these needs in innovative and accessible ways. In the meantime, if you are a parent in the community looking for lactation support or guidance on where to find it, we welcome you to review our resource list or reach out to us directly. We are happy to help connect you with local resources.

In addition to our educational and outreach efforts, we host an annual conference at NC State University that brings together lactation professionals, healthcare providers, and nutrition experts for a day of learning, networking, and good food.

Whether you are a provider, researcher, student, or parent, we invite you to be part of our mission as the MILK Research and Educational Group to advance maternal and infant nutrition for healthier communities.
