Becoming an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) requires pre-requisite health sciences education, lactation specific education, clinical experience, and successful completion of the IBCLC exam. The IBCLC Commission outlines specific requirements for the 95 lactation specific education hours, including 2 hours of education focused on the WHO Code and 5 hours of education focused on communication skills. At the MILK Research and Educational Group at NC State University, we’ve developed comprehensive, affordable, and flexible lactation education courses approved by the Lactation Education Accreditation and Approval Review Committee (LEAARC) that are designed to help you meet the 95-hour lactation specific education requirement with confidence and to help prepare you for the IBCLC exam.
Our self-paced, online courses are designed to fit into your life – whether you’re working, parenting, or navigating a nontraditional schedule. We welcome students following Pathway 1 or Pathway 3, and our content is aligned with the IBCLC Commission and International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) detailed content outline. After successfully completing both of our lactation education courses, you’ll fulfill the entire 95-hour requirement, including the 5 hours focused on communication skills and the 2 hours focused on the WHO Code at no additional cost.
